MSMEs in Focus: Insights on how MSMEs in Fiji are affected by extreme weather events and their readiness for disaster risk financing
Fiji’s agriculture and fisheries industries and MSMEs are particularly vulnerable to damage caused by natural hazards. These sectors are critical sources of livelihood for a large proportion of the population.
This evidence note focuses on how MSMEs in Fiji are affected by extreme weather events and their access to and usage of financial services, their perception towards disaster risk financing and the possibility of developing and offering CDRF instruments to meet their unique needs. The note draws on data from a survey of MSMEs in urban
and rural areas in Fiji, conducted by the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme (PICAP).
