Introduction

Rural Finance Labs evolved out of the previous bi-monthly technical webinar series organized by the Inclusive Rural Finance team of the FAO, in collaboration with partners, under the umbrella of the CABFIN Partnership.

The Rural Finance Labs technical webinars are aimed at facilitating knowledge sharing within the community of practice on priority technical- and policy-related themes in inclusive rural and agricultural finance.  The sessions are designed to deepen the understanding and maintain active engagement with new content and recent experiences on advancements in the field. Currently, the Rural Finance Labs aim to host three/four sessions per year.

More specifically, the webinars aim to:

-Discuss the challenges of financial provision in the rural space and for small-scale agrifood actors, the emerging responses and innovative solutions;

-Provide a platform for the community of practice, including development partners, public and private sector actors, and other stakeholders to share insights and propose strategies to strengthen the ecosystem for inclusive and sustainable rural finance;

-Discuss practical examples and showcase successful case studies from the field.

Focus of this session

This webinar will explore the role of Technical Assistance Facilities (TAFs) in fostering and promoting agribusiness investment in developing and emerging economies.  TAFs are crucial instruments for de-risking investments, enhancing the performance of agricultural enterprises, and addressing capacity gaps in agribusiness finance. The webinar will present key findings from a recent FAO study that reviews key examples of TAFs in the agrifood sector, examining how they operate, advantages and constraints, and the strategies used by development agencies, investment funds, and NGOs to maximize the impacts of such facilities.

Highlights:

-Presentation: Key findings from the FAO study “The design and implementation of Technical Assistance Facilities to unlock agribusiness investment”, highlighting lessons learned and recommendations for designing and managing TAFs effectively.

-Panel Discussion: Selected experts, including TAFs and fund managers, will discuss best practices, challenges, and innovations related to using technical assistance to foster and facilitate investments in agrifood systems

Why attend?

-Gain insights from leading experts on how to use specialized technical assistance to unlock investments in agrifood systems.

-Explore real-world case studies showcasing innovative approaches of Technical Assistance Facilities supporting agribusiness investment.

-Engage with key stakeholders involved in the design and implementation of Technical Assistance Facilities.
