Webinar
Tuesday, June 21, 2016
Continued growth in population, incomes, and urbanization as well as improved competitiveness of agricultural value chains will lead to a substantial growth of the agribusiness industry in South Asia over the next decade. Financial institutions can play a critical role in supporting the agribusiness growth by providing the necessary capital along entire value chains.
Ms. Åsa Giertz, senior agriculture economist at the World Bank’s Agriculture Global Practice will discuss the key findings from recently conducted work for an upcoming World Bank report. She will explain how financial institutions interested in expanding their agricultural lending portfolio can take advantage of the agribusiness growth opportunities in South Asia. Åsa’s presentation will cover the following:
- Overview of South Asia’s Agro-Food sector’s performance
- Lessons from the experience of South Asia’s lead firms; what banks should know about their potential clients.
- Policy constraints affecting trade, domestic markets, and input markets.
